Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program in Siraha and Saptari district

The project titled “Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program” was implemented in Siraha and Saptari districts with the World Food Programme (WFP), Nepal Country Office, as the client. The lead firm provided services valued at Rs. 123,45,249.00, funded by WFP Nepal. The consultancy assignment took place in the fiscal year FY 2075/076, commencing in September 2019 and concluding in November 2019.

The primary objective of the project was to provide technical support to the Palikas (municipalities) and District Health Offices (DHOs) in Siraha and Saptari for the implementation of the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program. The scope of activities included organizing and facilitating district and Palika level program advocacy meetings and orientations, distributing nutritional food to targeted Pregnant and Lactating Women (PLW) and children aged 6-59 months, providing counseling on social and behavioral change communication (SBCC) to pregnant and lactating women linked with Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) and Maternal Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN), conducting nutrition assessments of all children aged 6-59 months using Mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) and checking for nutrition edema linked with nutritional food distribution and counseling, referring severely acute malnutrition (SAM) cases to Outpatient Therapeutic Care (OTC) or district hospitals, conducting program monitoring, supervision, and joint monitoring at food distribution sites to ensure quality assurance of each component, proper management of district stores, developing distribution plans in coordination with WFP and district stakeholders, arranging transportation for on-time supply at distribution sites, media mobilization to raise awareness about the program and key nutrition messages, compiling and updating daily, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly data and information, preparing reports, and organizing and facilitating district-level review meetings to share progress and address issues encountered during food distribution.

The lead firm successfully executed these activities, providing technical support for the Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program in Siraha and Saptari districts, in collaboration with WFP Nepal and other stakeholders.
